Who We Are
The Center for Eldercare and Rehabilitation Technology is an interdisciplinary research team at the University of Missouri, College of Engineering. Our mission is to create technology for proactive healthcare that helps older adults and people of all ages and needs to lead more healthier and quality of life.
What We Do
We investigate, develop, and evaluate technology to serve the needs of older adults and others with physical and cognitive challenges. New sensing technologies that we are developing address these challenges by monitoring for health changes. Early detection through sensing technology enables early interventions, more effective treatments, and prevention of decline.
In previous work, we developed a health message system that captures and analyzes data from sensors embedded in the home and flags possible health changes. In previous studies, we observed significant differences in health outcomes with health messages from motion, bed, and gait sensing. Currently, we are extending this work through the following aims:
Specific Aims
- Develop new health messages by incorporating new sensor systems that track trends in health status.
- Customize health messages by integrating user feedback, health status, and medications.
- Design a user-friendly interface and website to display health information as a way to better self-manage chronic health conditions.
- Explore wearable sensors for older adults to investigate the potential for capturing changes in health.
